RAISING AWARENESS

The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders joined with the Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) in collaboration with the Ocean County Cancer Coalition and the Long Beach Island Health Department in recognizing Oct. 15, as Ocean County's eighth PRETTY IN PINK DAY. "Most of us are aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month," said Freeholder Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health. "Over the past seven years, in addition to recognizing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ocean County has always chosen a day where everyone is encouraged to wear pink." The day is set aside to raise awareness and educate about the importance of early detection through mammograms and clinical breast exams at regular intervals in order to lower breast cancer death rates.
