LACEY ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS COMING: SEVEN OTHER ROADS TO BE REPAVED THIS SUMMER
REVISIONS TO AN intersection in the Bamber Lake section of Lacey Township will improve safety for motorists traveling
through that rural section of the county.
“We’ve identified a potentially dangerous location where two side roads intersect Lacey Road,” said Freeholder John
P. Kelly, Director of Law and Public Safety for the county. “By making a few upgrades, this will become a much safer
intersection for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.”
The estimated $750,000 project will realign Lacey Road at Phillips Road and Good Luck Point Road.
A left-turn lane will also be added on Lacey Road to funnel traffic onto Phillips Road, Kelly said.
“We’re also going to eliminate the sharp curve on Lacey Road so drivers coming from all directions will have a
better view of traffic,” Kelly said.
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will seek bids for the project, which should be under construction
later this year. Work should take about three months.
The Freeholders will also seek bids for the annual reconstruction and resurfacing of various county roads.
Included in this contract are:
- South Hope Chapel Road and Leesville Road, Jackson Township.
- North Hope Chapel Road, Jackson and Lakewood townships.
- Butler Boulevard, Berkeley Township.
- Oak Ridge Parkway, Whitesville Road and Water Street in Toms River Township.
The entire contract is estimated at $2.1 million and will be funded entirely by state aid, said Freeholder Director James F.
Lacey.
“We’ll start work later this summer and the improvements should be completed in about two months,” Lacey said.
Each roadway will be milled 2 inches and resurfaced with 2 inches of fresh pavement.
“With 620 miles of county roads and 259 bridges and culverts, we are constantly monitoring and maintaining our road
network,” said Freeholder Director James F. Lacey.
