TWO NEW TRAFFIC SIGNALS COMING TO LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP
TWO NEW traffic signals will be installed in Lakewood Township this spring.
Signals will be added to the intersection of Hope Chapel Road and South Lake Drive and to Central Avenue and New
Central Avenue, said Freeholder John P. Kelly, Director of Law and Public Safety.
Kelly said the Ocean County Department of Engineering works closely with local municipalities, police departments
and the state Department of Transportation to determine which intersections are most in need of traffic signals.
"We look at both the volume of traffic and pedestrians that cross at those intersections," Kelly said. "We are
concerned with both motorist and pedestrian safety."
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will seek bids for the two traffic lights.
Construction should begin in the late spring and be completed in about 90 days.
The Engineering Department estimates the total cost of the two signals at about $375,000.
