All of these pictures are from the 30's and 40's. these are linen postcards, but you kinda get the idea of the start of something big happening in and around the area.

Casino wasn't even a fishing pier then, in fact it didn't even exist. This area was all started by Frank H Freeman in 1916 when he took over the operations of a Carousel which for those that dont know, is the big enclosed circuliar pavillion off of Dupont and Ocean Terrace Aves. The forerunner of many rides to follow in Seaside, The pavillion still exists today!

This is a close up picture of the pavilion on the beach between Porter and Dupont Avenues, also in the foreground is the Mathis Baths. Inside this pavilion housed Freeman's Carousel, this merry-go-round was installed in the pavilion in 1916, replacing the original gas powered one, which failed in its first season.

This picture was taken in the 1950's, and the next panoramic view is of it's final season in the mid 1980's.

There is an existing merry-go-round housed inside today, but not of the majestic splendor of the original.
